HISTORY of "THUNDER CREEK MODEL RAILROAD CLUB"

Started in 1967 by Rick Percy with 5 members, all employed at CFB Moose Jaw. In the beginning, the meetings where held in members home an at a hall on South Hill. Membership has been as high as 27 and is currently at 20. The club meets every Tuesday (excluding summer months). During the early years and up to the late 70's, the club had displays in malls and attended model railroad shows in Saskatchewan. They also had displays at the Western Development Museum as part of the annual car show. The club attended the spring meet of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) 6th Division which includes Saskatchewan, Alberta, North Dakota, Montana, and Idaho.

In 1979, modules were built as a club project. There were originally built in N scale and then switched to HO scale due to it's greater popularity. In 1994 the club displayed the modules at the Moose Jaw Art Museum Gallery as part of a traveling exhibit displaying the posters found in the CPR Train "The Canadian". These modules were shown at shows and displays across the Province, and in 1997 were lent to the Western Development Museum (WDM) and were on display there until 2005.

In May 1987 the NMRA Spring Meet was held at Moose Jaw. This was a 3 day event that included Proto-type tours of the Moose Jaw CPR yards, along with clinics and displays related to Model Railroading.

Since 1995,the club has had annual shows with local model railroaders and displays by modelers from across Saskatchewan.

In 2005, to recognize the Centennial of Saskatchewan, the modules on display at the WDM where replaced with a new  display. This display represents the same scene at 4 different times during the last century.

The TCMRC is a Club dedicated to the promotion of Model Railroading in the City of Moose Jaw and the surrounding District of Thunder Creek.

When we meet at the Museum, we work on the permanent exhibit built and maintained by the Club over the years. We now have a work/storage space on the 2nd floor, and are holding our annual show in the WDM facilities in Moose Jaw.
