Portable Layout is controlled using "LENZ" Set 100.

TCMRC goes "Lenz"

3 years ago, the club attended the Edmonton Show and saw some DCC layout and the members fell in love with the idea of DCC. One of the members already had an extensive Atlas DCC system and it made sense for him to go with the Lenz system. The remainder of the members decided that it made more sense to all purchase the same system so we can help each other out and programming would be the same from layout to layout, keeping things simple.

As a result of this, 6 members purchased systems, the club purchased a "Set 100" and the DCC world was opened up to us. Several months were spent upgrading Locos with decoders and learning how frustrating this DCC can be at times and how simple it really can be some times.

Something else was learned at that Show, how frustrating wireless systems can be. We watched several other clubs endured the frustrations of dealing with someone from a layout across the room acquire and run a locomotive you really don't want to see moved on your layout. As a result of this, as a club, we made the decision that wireless was not for us.

Since that original purchase, we have added several pieces to our Lenz system. We find that for us, the system works and gets what we need to do accomplished. I am not saying this is the end all, be all, but that is a good system that works for us.
